Van Straaten sr. with Isabel (Uron), End of the 60's Van Straaten senior laid the basis for their present sporthorse stock with the Gelders mare Isabelle. This Uron daughter was used for both the sport and breeding at "De Hazelhorst". Isabelle has contributed importantly to its success. She produced, amongst others, the successful KWPN-stallion Fair Play (Ulft) but also the international jumpers Exodus (Zadok) and Hurricane (Burggraaf).
As a basis for purposeful performance breeding Family Van Straaten uses the best female lines, whose performance genes are anchored in several generations. Family Van Straaten has deep appreciation for the Holstein horse as these have been bred as sporthorses for many years. Several of Family Van Straaten's foundation dams come from this studbook. But also Farn-daughter Tivonne, dam of the world-famous Olympic It's Otto (Sultan) under Geoff Billington, was active at "De Hazelhorst".

In the KWPN index of the top 250 of best mares family Van Straaten is represented by no less than seven mares. Also on the KWPN index of the 50 most sport-bred colts born in 1997, three stallions are bred by the Van Straaten family. In addition, Family Van Straaten is holding a splendid 14th place on the WBFSH-world ranking for sporthorse breeders.
